You Don’t Need Permission.

You don’t need to wait for the world to tell you that it is ready for you.

You don’t need the permission of your parents, teachers or peers to go ahead and fight for your dreams (you should never hand over so much damn control anyway.) You don’t need the go ahead, or to wait for the flag to drop. Sometimes you just have to take it for yourself. Sometimes you need to buck the system. Sometimes you need to stop making excuses.

And by sometimes I mean all the time.

Do you want to do something meaningful? Contribute? Make something of yourself? Do you have something unique to offer, or something you are passionate about?

Are you doing anything to pursue it or are you waiting for the green light?

I can tell you this, no one is going to give it to you. Not really. You may get a slap on the back and a go for it, but maybe you won’t. Don’t wait for it. Don’t wait for permission, don’t even ask for it, it may never come.

There will always be someone waiting to tear you down, make you doubt yourself, if it’s not already yourself.

Maybe all you have right now is an idea. And that might just be enough. As long as you’re not waiting around for someone else to acknowledge it, tell you it’s good, let’s you take it out into the world. As long as you are chasing it with ferocity, doing all you can to make it a reality, then that’s all you really need right now.

Forget the rest.

If you listened to society it would tell you to cut your hair, get a job, do that dumb thing you really don’t want to do. But if you listen to your dreams , without the fear, they will urge you to go after more (keep your long hair, stick it to the man, do what you want), to not worry about those things that are holding you back, and to realise that there really is only one voice that matters and that is yours.

Screw what everything else thinks.

I think intrinsically we know that there is always more than meets the eye. That deep down there is only one thing that stops us, our own fears, our own limits. There are always mountains to climb, and they’re almost always worth it. But we make excuses, call them other things, label them. Wait for someone to say the idea is good, wait for someone to do it for you even. Wait for the perfect time.

Wait for permission.

Well, fuck that.

Imagine. You wait your whole life for the perfect moment. Wait until tomorrow or the day after. To be ready. To have everything in place. Wait for the world to say ‘yep it’s your turn,’ and only then do you believe you will finally give yourself permission to chase that dream, having held back for so damn long.

Then you realise your life is over before it’s really ever begun.

Is that what you want?

You need to stop waiting for someone else to say it’s your turn and get out there and claim what’s yours, before it’s too late.

Plus isn’t it better to ask for forgiveness than permission anyway?

QUESTION: What is the one thing that you want to do, but are holding back from, waiting for approval for or procrastinating from doing because maybe you think you need permission to do it?
