Artwork of the Week: Spider – Short Film

Australian filmmaking collective Blue-Tongue Films are some of the best in the industry, and Spider is a defining example of the power of the artform.

A black comedy built around a single joke, it is simple, yet effective. Technical flair is sidelined, making the punchline all that harder-hitting.

The film was written by Nash Edgerton (The Square), and David Michôd (Animal Kingdom), directed by and starring Edgerton alongside fellow Blue-Tongue collaborator Mirrah Foulkes.

Spider debuted at the 2007 Sydney Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Best Short Film. The following year, it received an honourable mention at Sundance Film Festival.

At risk of spoiling the short, we won’t say anymore. Enjoy.
