Netflix launched in Australia this week to much fanfare. Telco company Optus are partnering with Netflix, and approached comedian Ricky Gervais to record a series of ads. Gervais is well-known for his subversive style of comedy, and recorded an ad that truly fits in with his own brand. The first video is as expected—the announcement, the features, a perfectly normal ad.
The second video, however, is a brilliant piece of advertising. Subversive, very funny, and very likely to get a lot of publicity in a way that a regular ad wouldn’t (we’re posting it here, aren’t we?!), the Optus advertising team should be patting themselves on the back right now.
