About the Artwork:

Tanghi Argentini (in English: Argentine Tangos), is a 2007 Academy Award nominated short film by Flemish director Guy Thys that captures heart, humour, and the Christmas spirit in equal measure.

It’s just over two weeks until Christmas, and office worker Andre has arranged to meet an online date to spend a night dancing the tango! The only problem? He doesn’t actually know how to dance.

Fortunately, his co-worker Frans does, and though he doesn’t think Andre has the “fire” to perform the tango, Frans ultimately agrees to teach him.

The dancing takes centre stage, and is captured by tight, vivid cinematography. What ultimately makes Tanghi Argentini a memorable film is its heart. Andre hasn’t shared the full truth behind his date with Frans, but when the revelation dawns, it makes for a perfect conclusion that reminds us about the power of the short.

Running for 14 minutes – though it hardly feels half that length – Tanghi Argentini is an ideal, alternative Christmas film that captures the essence of the festive season.
