Often on the path to grow our business, we must learn to grow ourselves.
Understanding undesirable elements within ourselves is crucial, and yet it is something few people handle rationally.
Too many react in the extreme. They recognise a fault that is hampering their ability to sell or deliver to clients, and think overcoming it means embracing the exact opposite. The hard-hitter plays the martyr. The patient gets direct.
That’s not going to solve anything.
Your clients aren’t stupid. They can tell when you aren’t being honest to them, and to yourself.
Pretending to be who and what you’re not is tiring. Even if you manage to fool people into believing you are what you aren’t, and find success through that, it will only be temporary. Eventually, they will see through you, because you can’t lie forever, and by that time you will already hate the person you’ve become.
Above all, honesty is what people want.
The only way to honestly overcome faults is to accept that doing so is a process. It takes time, support, reflection, and patience.
So be calm, strong, and carry on. You will overcome.
